Upcycling: Paper Egg Project

This is an ongoing project, and in this article, I'll show the finished product.  My apologies that the image doesn't do the paper eggs justice.  I'm not all that great with photography, so I used the scanner instead.

This would be considered an "upcycling" project: taking a recyclable material and using it to make something new, instead of sending it to the recycling center.  There are plenty of other people already involved in "upcycling," but it's still largely unknown to the general public.

Like I said, these eggs are made of paper (grocery store advertisements) and ordinary school glue.  Out of this batch, my favorite one is the one with the antique copper "veins".  These are all small enough to fit in the palm, but they're hollow inside.

I sometimes wear the prototype to these paper eggs.  It's blue and light green, with a crocheted "webbing" attaching it to a crocheted cotton thread chain.

It takes roughly 8 hours to make two paper eggs.  They'd be unpainted though.  It can take another day or so to get the eggs painted and a coat of polycrylic applied to give them a shiny appearance.

I'll go through one of these in stages in another blog post.
